# Read the names in an Invisalign proposal

Treatment terms and planning

Reading one: names and roles

Several names can appear in one explanation without naming the same thing. Understanding each role makes the whole proposal easier to follow.

Read the explanation, follow the example, then bring your own priorities to the discussion.

## Three names with different jobs

Invisalign treatment uses a series of removable aligners.

ClinCheck is treatment\-planning software. Align describes doctors reviewing, modifying and approving plans in it.

An iTero scanner can create a three\-dimensional image of the teeth.

**The name tells you which part of the explanation you are reading**

| Name | Role described by the manufacturer | How to read it |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Invisalign aligners | The removable aligners used in the named treatment approach. | An appliance name, rather than a complete description of your care. |
| ClinCheck | Software used for clinician treatment planning. | A planning tool, rather than the appliance you wear. |
| iTero scan | 3D tooth record. | Identifies the record. |

## Worked reading: one proposal, three references

Fictional example. This short document belongs to no real patient or practice.

The document below deliberately separates the approach discussed, a record and a planning reference. Reading those labels together is more useful than treating every name as another treatment option.

**Fictional proposal extract**

| Document line | Wording in the example |
| --- | --- |
| Approach discussed | Invisalign treatment. |
| Record referenced | iTero scan, identified as Record A. |
| Planning reference | ClinCheck document A, marked 'for discussion'. |
| Individual explanation | Goals and proposed care to be discussed with the clinician. |
| Services | See the separate written service statement. |

## Read the connections, not just the names

The first line names the approach being discussed. The next two identify different items connected to that discussion. They do not introduce three competing appliances.

The words 'for discussion' matter. In this example they describe the document's status; the presence of a planning\-software name does not erase them. The separate service statement also remains a separate part of the proposal.

A useful response would connect your priorities to that explanation: 'I understand which names refer to the appliance, record and planning document. Please explain the goals being proposed for me and which document records the current discussion.'

**What this fictional wording establishes**

| Established in the text | Still needs an individual explanation |
| --- | --- |
| An approach, record and planning reference are named separately. | How the proposal addresses this person's goals. |
| Document A is marked for discussion. | The status of the plan after that discussion. |
| Services have their own written statement. | The actual services and arrangements described there. |

## Keep the broader comparison in view

Recognizing these roles does not mean you must choose the named approach. If your question is how a brand name relates to the wider clear\-aligner category, use the broader guide before returning to your individual proposal.
